What is a luxury brand?
A luxury brand is a company that’s known for selling prestigious or exclusive products. They target customers with a high net worth. You’ll find luxury brands in industries like cars, clothing, and hotels.
Luxury brands normally have the following characteristics:
- Quality: Materials and craftsmanship are normally at a higher level.
- History: Many luxury brands have a long history. Even if you’re a new brand, the techniques you use might be generations old.
- Service: Luxury brands offer a more exclusive level of service for their clientele.
- Availability: Unlike many brands that will make as many products as people want, a luxury brand will limit the number of each item sold.
- Prestige: Luxury brands try to create a high-class personal image. They often use celebrities as models.

What makes a good name for a luxury brand?
A good name for a luxury brand should have the following qualities:
- Unique: Think about how your brand name sounds compared to other brands in the industry. Could people get another name confused with yours?
- Available: Confirm that your desired brand name is available as a trademark, business name, domain name, and social media handle.
- Short: The length of the name should be three words or less. Aim for under 14 characters, and think about how the letters might look together as a monogram.
- Relevant to history: A brand story is a powerful thing. What does your brand name say about your history and experience?
- Foreign: People tend to associate foreign sounds with hinting at prestige. Many of the top fashion designers are European.
- Memorable: Choose a name that’s easy to remember, spell, and say. Try to keep each word under three syllables.
Just Use a Variation of Your Name

The vast majority of luxury brand names are a variation of the founder’s first, last, or full name. You don’t have to use your name as your luxury brand name, but there’s a long history of doing so across multiple industries. Here are some examples:
- Luxury fashion: Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, and Giorgio Armani are just a few of the fashion brands that use the founders’ names.
- Luxury watches: Cartier and Patek Philippe are named after their founders.
- Premium liquor: Don Julio and Hennessy are both named after the people who created them.
- Luxury cars: Ferrari was named after Enzo Ferrari, while Rolls Royce was named after cofounders Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce. Meanwhile, Mercedes was named after the founder’s daughter Mercédès Adrienne Ramona Manuela Jellinek.
- Luxury hotels: Hilton, Wynn, and Trump Towers are all named after their founders.
As an example, my luxury brand names would either be Brandon, Boushy, or Brandon Michael Boushy. I probably wouldn’t use Brandon since it doesn’t sound like a luxury brand name, but Boushy or my full name could work. I have a monogram I use of BMB that looks similar to a butterfly if I decide to create a luxury brand.
Pro Tip: Buy the domain names for your first, last, and full name as soon as possible. It should be under $50 per year to maintain them, and you’ll be building domain authority as time passes.
